Renting a Tent for Tailgating

If you've never rented a tent for tailgating, there are a few things you should know.

The Tent Sizes

Your tent has to accommodate all of your guests. Here are some basic guidelines:

  • A 20' by 50' tent can house 100 guests.
  • A 30' by 40' tent can take in 120 guests.
  • A 30' by 60' tent can shelter 180 guests.
  • A 40' by 60' tent can harbor 240 guests.

Your Options for a Party Tent Rental

A pole tent is the most popular tent style. You can anchor it down with stakes. This tent is worth renting because:

  • It's easy to set up.
  • It's sturdy.
  • It's stylish.

If you want to host your party on the pavement, a pole tent won't work. You'll need a heavy-duty frame tent.

A frame tent is an evolved version of a pole tent. It's not as aesthetically pleasing as a pole tent, but it has better features that you'll appreciate. A frame tent is a freestanding tent, so it will hold its shape on its own. However, it will require anchors like a pole tent. You can use water barrels as anchors. This is the best way to set up a frame tent in a parking lot.

The pop-up tent is a smaller version of a frame tent. It's a lighter product, and it's easier to assemble and dissemble.

Tent Rental 101 — The Essential Preparation Strategies

You should try to reserve a space for your tent at a stadium. Most institutions will require this along with a permit. The reservation process will vary at different stadiums. Some organizations will only reserve spots on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you have questions or concerns, visit your local sports team's official website.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

During the set-up process, never scatter the supplies in an open area. Instead, carefully lay out the parts in an isolated spot. Then, take inventory and make a checklist.

Most canopy tents are not waterproof; they're mainly water-resistant.

When your tent is about to fly away, don't panic. Just use your feet as an anchor as you tie the tent down.

The Dos and Don't's for Party Tent Rentals

Never clean the tent's fabric on concrete or asphalt surfaces because they are abrasive. You'll create micro-tears if you scrub the tent on any rough surface. If you have no other options, you can use a soft drop cloth as protective padding.

If it rains during your tailgate party, allow the tent to dry before you put it in storage. Do not store the tent in your trunk while it's still wet because it will attract mold and mildew.
